Cycling off season in full swing. I haven't ridden since before Thanksgiving, and now am ready to start back into it. Through that time, I hit the CrossFit workouts pretty hard and have seen some good progress. Totally love front squats! Also have significantly improved my form on back squats and today hit a 265lb 1RM personal record during CrossFit Total. Nearly got a 356lb deadlift which would have also been PR, and would have pushed my total to 750lbs (squat, shoulder press, deadlift). Next time...
I started CrossFit 1 year ago, and am continually growing more impressed with it as a workout program. I've mainly followed the mainsite program, but have ventured into working in some periodic strength WODs from CrossFit football. I'll do more of that over the winter. Once cycling season hits, something has to give. Just not enough (recovery) time to do it all.
I created a post earlier this year with my goals for the year, and will post a summary of how many I hit (I fell short on a few). Also need to stretch my goals for next year, and hope that with the growth of Crossfit, that there are some local competitions similar to the CrossFit games held in CA over the summer. Also need to formulate a plan to be more competitive in cycling, but know that I can't commit all my training time just to cycling. If not, a repeat of this year would be just fine by me. Got a few results , but mainly enjoyed the team training rides and the local race scene.
Also mixed up the music playlist on my blog a bit...led off by some Maiden. It was so nice to walk into the North Canton YMCA for my workout this morning and hear Iron Maiden "Run to the Hills" playing in the weight room. Most YMCA's seem to play X-mas music at this time...nothing against it, but its more suited to background music when baking cookies, not deadlifting.
