Mohican...seems to be the topic

A scan through several of the local road cycling blogs currently and you'll see several Mohican mountain biking posts...A sure sign that road race opportunities are dwindling in the area. This past weekend was obviously a good time to get down there for some off road fun.

My first ride ever (way past due) on the 24 mile loop occured Sunday afteroon. Sounded like Lesco and crew went early that day. If I would have gone with them, it would have been a real fun 0.5 mile ride until I'd be spit out the back wondering how many minutes behind I was.

I loaded up the iPod with everything from Rush to Steve Morse to Slipknot to Bob Mould and headed out on the loop. Instead of detailing it out for you, I'll just say what I put on Facebook...'perfect 2.5 hr music video'. The course is fast, fun, rollercoaster like, and the climbs are decent and gradual. I only used the small ring once on an early climb. There was one point where the flow of the trail combined with the music had me in the zone and several miles went by while I was pushing the pace quite hard, yet it didn't seem difficult. Love when that happens.

I will definitely make a point of getting down there often. What a gem of a trail and only a bit over 1hr drive to get there.

When I finished, I still felt fresh and wanted more, but the day was winding down. Next time, with an early enough start, I'd love a 2 lap outing.

Crossfit program has really strengthened my core and upper body. During and after my ride, my legs were still a bit sore from 2 WODs on Friday (Karen - 20lb wallball x 150 reps, followed by a pull up / sit up / walking lunge combo), but I still felt fine in the shoulders, arms and back.

On Friday, I also rode the 'cross bike over at KSU Stark to scout and plan the course for the CX race. I think it'll be good. I'll probably go there a couple more times to ride and make sure its what we want. Rough measurements have it at 2.5k.

Later...
