Mill Creek and misc stuff

Haven't posted anything in a week or so. Quick race report from Mill Creek:

Lined up in the M35+ with the 2 Rick P's, and John Lowry. Mill Creek is one of my favorites...except the hill. Being a 1 mile course, we do the hill 20 times. Its a big ring power climb that seems harmless in laps 1-5, hurts pretty good 6-12, really hurts 13-17, and thoroughly dread it 18-20.
Parr and Lowry were very active throughout the race and took turns in moves most laps. I was at the front periodically at the beginning of the race, but only had enough energy to hang mid-pack. John was in the last move that was reeled in with 1 to go, which set up a bunch sprint up the hill and for the 200m flat to the line. I was well positioned going into the hill, Parr was a rider or two ahead of me when the sprint began. I made it 1/3 of the way up the hill, but then I was overtaken by 4 more riders...legs were cooked...buh-bye. I was able to sit up and watch Rick sprint it all the way to the line and end up in 2nd place.

I'll prep better for Grandview (meaning I won't be digging multiple 4' deep post holes, do a CrossFit body weight bench press / pull up max rep WOD, a 1hr ride, and drink Bud Limes until midnight the day before).

The post holes are for the backyard CrossFit playground which should be going in later this week and over the weekend. I need to take progress photos then load them up and post 'em. We'll be breaking it in with a Fran WOD and beers, followed by muscle up attempts.

I've learned handstand pushups and one leg squats over the past few weeks. With CrossFit, I've learned many new exercises that I think are some of the best workouts I've ever had. Thrusters are top of the list, with cleans/jerks/front squats/overhead squats/kipping pull ups and push presses also in there. Still need to nail down muscle ups, and improve form on most of the ones listed above. I also have grown to love running, as long as its 5k or less.

Off topic here, but I watched the Iron Maiden concert on VH1 Classic this week and those guys haven't missed a beat. They look a bit older, but seem to be just as good as when they were in their prime. They genuinely look like they are having fun, know how to put on a show, and sound amazing. They also get to fly around in a custom painted 757, Ed Force One, flown by lead singer/pilot Bruce Dickinson...now thats rock star!
