Mohican x2

I had Sunday morning open, so figured with a real early start, I could get 2 laps in at Mohican. After quietly exiting the house and getting a not-so good cup of coffee from McD's, I made the drive down...record time also due to almost no cars out at all.

I was the first car in the main lot and quickly prepped and dressed (arm warmers and a base layer as it was ~51 degrees F). The first climb hurt because the Saturday CrossFit WOD hit the legs hard. Once the trailed hit the up and down portions, I really felt much better. Saw a lot of white tails running away as I was startling them this early in the AM.

1st lap went well and I completed it in 2:35, holding a bit back for a second lap. I made my way back to the truck, refilled the CamelBak, grabbed another powerbar and lost the base layer and arm warmers. Starting into the second lap, the climb really felt great and I think I made it to mile 7 well ahead of my first lap pace. Once I hit the climb after the sharp turn (just past mile 7) I decided to push it since I was feeling good. That was not too smart. As I crested the top, the legs felt much worse, so I eased up for a while.

I finished the powerbar on the road over the covered bridge, and without stopping, hit the next climb...small ring came in handy now. Miles 15-20 really seem to go by quick each lap for me. Unsure why, because they don't seem much different than the rest of the course. Anyways I was glad they did. Hitting 20 mi on the 2nd lap was even more of a mental boost...only 4.5 more to go. The fun downhill section before the cabin road was a bit sketchy as I was not on top form and upper body was getting a bit tired, but made it out unscathed. I cruised the final mile on the trail back to the truck, which was a very welcome site.

The fatigue does cause mental blunders...I was craving more coffee so I stopped at the 1st place I saw...McD's. This cup wasn't quite as bad, but I was really missing my Trader Joe's French Roast.
